Ladies and gentlemen may I introduce to you the Grapple™.
It's an apple that tastes like a grape. Or as the
official website puts it:
Imagine the sweet distinctive flavor of Concord grapes combined with the crispness of a fresh, juicy Washington Extra Fancy apple.
I've actually eaten one of these before and while it wasn't bad it did raise an important question in my mind: Why?
Were people really crying out for this? Was there a focus group done someplace where a bunch of people between the ages of 18-45 said "We like the grape. We like the Apple. Let's combine these two awesome forces into one almighty fruit." Is that how this happened? Or (like the above blurb) did somebody just "imagine" this.
One wonders if this might lead to a series of "things that are kind of like other somewhat different things".
Imagine a steak that tastes exactly like a chicken! Or a walnut that looks, smells and tastes exactly like an almond! What about a baseball that looks, feels, and is made from the same materials as a regulation bowling ball?
