Carson Daly for congress

Look who's running for congress in the hotly contested sixth district everyone!

It's either:

a) Carson Daly

b) that guy who sat next to you in freshman comp last year

c) that other guy who's always standing behind the desk at Rainbow Foods trying to sell you subscriptions to the Star Tribune

d) Independence Party candidate John P. Binkowski

e) All of the above

The correct answer is of course "e" but for sake of clarity let's just go with "d".

The Independence Party is a curious group. Apparently they got so fed up with the wishy-washy, milquetoast candidates the Democrats and Republicans keep throwing out there that they felt the need to combat that with their own wishy-washy, milquetoast candidates—hey it worked before!

Binky, like all independence party candidates is basically a social liberal/fiscal conservative masking as a libertarian. If that combination doesn't get your blood boiling I don't know what will.

The "issue" section on his website is a hotbed of insight and deep conviction starting with his position on abortion:

"I don’t believe that any American would say that they are “pro-abortion", we know all too well the procedure and its gruesome nature. I see this as an issue of government intrusion into private life more than anything else.

Additionally, if as a society we spent half the time and money we spend on the abortion debate actually attempting to improve the lives of impoverished American children, what a wonderful world we could live in.

We must find common ground on abortion, irrespective of the hard-core players on either side of the debate, and move on. I believe that this compromise should occur at the state level, and could include the disallowing of abortions past the first trimester, or similar legislation."

So basically we are looking at the real world equivalent of the oft-quoted Simpsons line "Abortions for all and miniature American flags for others!" (click here and go to 3:36).

If that isn't enough to move you and shake your deeply held beliefs to the core here are his brilliant thoughts on combating terrorism:

Meeting terrorism with further violence has historically been a failed policy. It failed the British in combating IRA terrorism, it has failed the Israelis in combating Palestinian terrorism, and there is little evidence that history will be rewritten in Iraq.

If I am to understand this correctly his preferred method for fighting terrorism in the world is to implement a Not Do Anything™ plan. This Not Do Anything™ plan will cost nothing in capital (political or otherwise) and will be very easy to implement: upon further attacks we will simply not do anything! The way to fix the situation in Iraq is to simply Not Do Anything™! Why didn't anyone think of this before?

So in conclusion if you believe in Not Doing Anything™, abortions and/or miniature American flags vote Binky on November 7th!

I believe I can get you through the night

In the spirit of our postmodern age and after much thought and prayer (but mostly in the spirit of our postmodern age) I have an announcement to make:

I, Chris Dugan, am appointing myself an independent Dreamweaver for the Emerging™ body of Christ. As Dreamweaver my duties will include but not be limited to vision casting, missiological genuflection, imagineering, and victual facilitating (i.e. snacks).

If you too would like to declare for yourself a position in the Emerging® Villa fret not! Positions remain open for Spiritdancer, Tinydancer, Messagebearer and Dennisweaver.

MySpace Nelson

That's right everybody, Mike Nelson now has a MySpace.

I am proud to call myself one of his cyber "friends." Who am I kidding? I'd be proud to call anybody my cyber "friend".

I especially enjoyed his "Twins Play More Like Olsen Twins" post.
