I am insane

Here are some insights from Tony Campolo. Some say he used to be a solid and important voice in the evangelical world—up until a few years ago when he started burrowing around in the postmodern church movement. I think that's probably a pretty generous assessment—Tony's been psychotic for years!

"I am saying that there is no salvation apart from Jesus; that's my evangelical mindset. However, I am not convinced that Jesus only lives in Christians"
-Tony Campolo
(National Liberty Journal, 8/99)

Me: I'm not saying Tony Campolo is crazy. However, I am not convinced that his brain isn't filled with Twinkie filling.

"Going to heaven is like going to Philadelphia....There are many ways....It doesn't make any difference how we go there. We all end up in the same place."
-Tony Campolo
"Carpe Diem: Seize the Day", 1994, pages 85-88

Me: How profound Tony. An even deeper question though as it pertains to your Heaven/Philadelphia analogy: Are there cheese steaks in heaven?

“There is a feminine side of God. I always knew this...It is this feminine side of God I find in Jesus that makes me want to sing duets with Him...Not only do I love the feminine is Jesus, but the more I know Jesus, the more I realize that Jesus loves the feminine in me. Until I accept the feminine in my humanness, there will be a part of me that cannot receive the Lord's love...There is that feminine side of me that must be recovered and strengthened if I am to be like Christ...And until I feel the feminine in Jesus, there is a part of Him which I cannot identify.”
-Tony Campolo
"Carpe Diem: Seize the Day", 1994, pages 85-88

Me: Fair enough Tony, but why not stop procrastinating and finally get that sex-change?

"Our call is to be God’s agents, to rescue not only the human race but the whole of creation.”
-Tony Campolo
TEAR TIMES, “Why care for creation?” 1992

Me: Tony actually has some Biblical basis for this but only if you read the TNIV version of John 3:16 which states:

"For God so loved the whales and rainforests that he gave his only Gore that whosoever should believe in him/her/it will live in harmony with the friends of the forest floor. Vote Democratic."

"We cannot allow our theologies to separate us" (speaking on the relations between Muslims and Christians)
-Tony Campolo
EVANGELICALS AND INTERFAITH COOPERATION, An Interview by Shane Claiborne

Me: Okay, but let's not let nuclear dirty-bombs seperate us either.

"On the other hand, we are hard-pressed to find any biblical basis for condemning deep love commitments between homosexual Christians, as long as those commitments are not expressed in sexual intercourse."
-Tony Campolo
"20 Hot Potatoes Christians Are Afraid To Touch", page 117

Me: Huh?

Halfway to 50

Today I share my birthday with two notable individuals:

Juliette Lewis. Which is lame, because nobody likes Juliette Lewis.

and—

Joe Flaherty
! Which is awesome because it's Joe Flaherty!

So in honor of Joe I shall quote his character Harold Weir from "Freaks & Geeks":

"Everyone's a Democrat until they get a little money. Then they come to their senses!"

Words to live by

From the 2006 MTV movie awards:

"Practice safe sex and drive hybrids if you can.”
-Jessica Alba, actress/imbecile

I understand that this also doubles as a summary for Brian McLaren's latest book.

Is this really what passes for Christian thought now?

I frequent the Christianity Today Out of Ur blog. Like it's namesake, it's mostly bland, dull and left-leaning. It also strikes me as one of those blogs that's trying way too hard to be "cool". You know the kind.

Anyway, the latest entry is from some guy named Ed Gungor. He says we should "embrace the mystery" of Christianity and that if we don't we are practicing dead religion. He then compares the desire to find concrete answers in our faith with him mutilating a frog.

You know if there ever wasn't a problem facing most Christians today I would say it's the desire to know too much.

62 years

A few of the bravest men in the history of mankind.

"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force:
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking."
-Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower
Supreme Allied Commander

The National D-Day Memorial Foundation
The National WWII Museum

Why not me too?

That sounds about right, although I'm not sure of this statement:

Have faith in your ideas, and voice them more often. Your unique perspective needs to be shared!
